Viking Containment supply and install durable geosynthetic products within the primary, civil, and construction industries throughout New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific.
Our comprehensive range of solutions include geosynthetic liners, baffle curtains, floating covers, geotextiles, geocomposites and geogrids. These are engineered to protect the environment by providing containment solutions for landfill and leachate, potable water, petrochemical and irrigation canals as well as dairy effluent and wastewater ponds.
We also supply a range of associated products, such as Geolock, Geoladders, baffle curtains and Viking Vents.
First established as part of Skellerup Industries in 1996, our containment business was acquired by Tiri Group in 2008. Since then, Viking Group Ltd has continued to develop, improve and expand their services in containment systems, conveyor & mining and roofing & waterproofing.
Today, Viking Containment has offices located in Christchurch, Hamilton and Auckland, and is New Zealand’s lead supplier of geosynthetic solutions.
History
1910
George Skjellerup, a Danish Australian, opens his first store in Christchurch, The Para Rubber Company (named after Para, a source of rubber in Brazil), selling a variety of rubber products including milking machine components. Para is the founding company of the Skellerup Group.
1996
Skellerup Containment Systems was established, supplying geosynthetic liner systems for landfill, wastewater, petrochemical, irrigation and potable water applications.
2002
Skellerup Containment increases installation capacity by establishing a branch and installation crews in Hamilton.
2005
Skellerup Containment Systems becomes a member of the International Association of Geosynthetic Installers (IAGI) and certifies their welding technicians.
2007
Milestone of 10 million square metres of geosynthetics installed.
2008
Tiri Group acquires Skellerup industrial business units: Containment Systems, Conveyor & Mining and Roofing & Waterproofing. Viking Group Ltd is established.
Viking Group Limited is part of the Tiri Group. Today the group comprises of 11 businesses, each with a strong market position in their sector. Their turnover is in excess of $150 million and the group employs around 600 people nationwide.
2009
Skellerup Containment Systems, Pumping Division rebranded to Viaflow.
Viking Group acquires own premises in Christchurch.
2010
Skellerup Containment Systems rebrands to Viking Containment.
Geosynthetic Product Manual Launched.
Product Brand Names released and trade marked for Geoshield, Agrishield, Flexishield, Texshield, Gridshield, and Geolock.
Agrishield installation specification for farm dairy effluent ponds released.
2011
Viking Geoladder was developed to provide safe access in or out of steep sloped ponds.
2016
Milestone of 20 million square metres of geosynthetics installed.
2022
Achieved SiteWise Gold.

Doug Spain
General Manager
Doug established the Containment business unit in 1996. His experience in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands includes fabrication, site installation and project management of geosynthetic materials used in civil engineering and the construction Industry.
He has managed in excess of 5 million square metres of geosynthetics. This experience and expertise combined with a strong cohesive team committed to quality will be invaluable to your project.
Kelly Montford
Contracts Manager
Kelly brings over 20 years of experience in site supervision and management of large-scale geosynthetic liner systems. His project experience includes multi-phased landfill cells, wastewater treatment plants, water storage dams, and canals. He has supervised and managed in excess of 5 million square metres of installed geosynthetic liner systems.
Kelly Montford
Kelly brings over 20 years of experience in site supervision and management of large-scale geosynthetic liner systems. His project experience includes: multi phased landfill cells; wastewater treatment plants; water storage dams; and canals. He has supervised and managed in excess of 5 million square metres of installed geosynthetic liner systems.
His expertise includes manufacturing quality control and assurance testing for geomembrane and contract management and administration to NZ 3910:2013 standard.
Kelly’s attention to detail ensures project specification, administration, testing, quality and safety requirements are met to the highest standard. He is practical and methodical, and commits to delivering projects on budget and on or ahead of time.
Kelly has excellent communication skills. He is a strong leader, who is focused on getting the best out of his team, suppliers and contractors.
Sharon Rogan
Contracts Administrator
Sharon has extensive experience in the management and monitoring of key assurance activities and manages all aspects of our contracts administration, procurement, and customer service.
Sharon also has an in-depth and practical understanding of compliance requirements for health and safety.
Masson Gilray BScAg
Geosynthetic Product Specialist
Masson’s experience includes project management of earthworks, civil engineering, and 14 years for geosynthetic lining projects for our Containment division. His key focus is wastewater and water storage applications and developing niche markets for geosynthetic applications for civil construction.
Recent projects include floating covers for methane gas collection, wastewater systems and water storage reservoirs.
Brent Whitehead
Contracts Representative & Technical Support
Brent has been working in the lining industry since 1988. Brent has supervised the installation of more than 5 million square metres of geosynthetic liner systems. International lining experience includes Australia, Rarotonga, Vanuatu, Fiji, Aitutaki Cook Islands, Guam and Burma.
Brent’s management experience spans 3 decades and includes roles such as Site Installation Supervisor, Contracts Representative and Technical Support. He is practical and methodical, and commits to delivering projects on budget and on or ahead of time.
